ED&I: Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion

What is ED&I?
It stands for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. Equity can be described as fairness. Diversity means being composed of differing qualities or characteristics. Inclusion is the act of including or accepting one into the whole. This means tackling equity issues requires an understanding of the root causes of outcome disparities within our society. Inclusion is an outcome to ensure those that are diverse actually feel and/or are welcomed. Inclusion outcomes are met when you, your institution, and your program are truly inviting to all. These are things as teachers we do or should be doing on a daily basis.

Goals:

  1. Provide overall leadership and guidance on the development and implementation of ED&I strategies and workstreams.
  2. Help set an annual agenda for ED&I initiatives with the board and/or an ED&I committee. (We will support you, especially in your first year.)
  3. Provide leadership, guidance, and support to DAEA members in their ED&I efforts.
  4. Provide regular ongoing updates related to ED&I (monthly board meeting report.)
  5. Serve as a change agent, consultant, thought-leader, influencer, and diversity and inclusion related issues that impact the visual arts education community.
