Committee Descriptions

ED&I
This Commission or SUPER PILLAR is embedded within each of our other pillars: Learning, Research & Knowledge, Advocacy & Policy, and Community Vibrancy, and Membership. Our MEMBERS are our driving force. They make us who we are. We are diverse and so Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion embodies us all and our associations' goal for Delaware.  Our goal is not to keep ED&I a separate committee but integrate it within each of our committees, ideas, and goals to make a stronger foundation for art in Delaware and the future.

Learning
Fall Arts Conference Committee
This committee works with other arts organizations to determine cost, logistics, organization, and food. Separately we organize fees, reimbursements, call for sessions, schedules, lanyards items, food, speakers, promotional items, member gifts, and more!
Spring Visual Art Conference
This could happen in late April into May.  This has not happened in many years. Please feel free to begin planning or discussing how this could potentially benefit our Association.
Creative Cafes
Creative Cafes are a time in which art educators can get together and share their craft, learn new techniques, and mingle with like minds to enrich their inner self and their students' minds.
We offer 1hr of PD for Creative Cafes in PDMS or through a certificate.
NAEA Webinar & Munchies
These are NAEA pre-recorded webinars which any member can access online for free. The problem is, how many of us really make use of this amazing tool? These meetings teach members how to access their NAEA webinars for free and gain easy PD credits! Non-members can pay $49 to view each session or on their own, but if they come to a viewing and register as a NAEA/DAEA member in the same month, we will reimburse the $49 fee!
Fireside Chats
Fireside Chats , which may fit into our mentoring program rather well and allow for cross pollination of our committees and goals, is a way for us to connect socially, emotionally, and artistically with members of the art committee.

Research & Knowledge
This is a pillar which needs to touch base with or be integrated into each committee allowing the committees to survey, learn, teach and share information to help us all grow as students, individuals, educators, and artists.

Advocacy & Policy
Public Relations Committee: Webmaster, Social Media Master, Newsletter
Each committee is now embedded with a web liaison who is able to update information directly to their committee's page using Google Pages/ Google Slides. The Social Media Master works at disseminating information through various social media avenues. The Newsletter is a regularly published email to inform, educate, and provide opportunities to our membership.
Y.A.M.
This stands for Youth Art Month which is celebrated in March. Leading up to March, we provide students of our members a chance to participate and be recognized for outstanding achievement through art. We offer contests such as the DAEA Mascot (grades k-5,) Y.A.M. Flag Contest (grades 6-12,) and the Y.A.M. Artwork Program during the winter months.
Mentorship
This is 2023 initiative began with Liz Long. She began investing and acting on a need to promote support among art educators in Delaware. The idea is to create a repository for seasoned art teachers to create teaching videos to share among our members. Our retired (emeritus) art teachers are our greatest resource but they are often not properly utilized. These teachers may just be the answer for some of the art teachers who are starting out, exploring new media, or changing positions, locations, and grades. Lastly, our Fireside Chats, which may be scheduled by our events committee, are a way for us to be connected and gain/provide support socially, emotionally, and artistically with members of the art committee as a support.

Community Vibrancy
Awards Committee
Educator Awards: This committee focuses on awarding the art advocates of Delaware.  These are our art teachers, art supervisors, museum educators, arts educators, administration, artists, and Delaware visual art advocates. This group of people sends nominations out to our members, district administrators, art museums, and art organizations throughout Delaware. They collect the nominations and then request each nominee provide two letters of recommendation and complete a vita form (resume questions) for their completion. They check with our membership committee to ensure teachers are active DAEA members and certified DE teachers for Delaware M.US.E., Secondary Division, Middle Division, and Elementary Division Awards.  The committee compiles this information to determine who is the best candidate for each award using the NAEA rubric. Additional member awards include our Howard Pyle Award, Rising Star Award, Art Administrator of the Year, and Retired M.U.S.E.  Distinguished Art Advocate Awards are given to deserving art advocates outside the teaching profession.
Student Awards: They are also widening their scope to include student awards and competitions to students of our membership. Some competitions include: A Scholarship for Student Portfolio Reviews and other awards are being explored. Student Awards and the Y.A.M. Committee may find some common ground with Scholastic Awards, DAEA Mascot (k-5,) Y.A.M. Flag Contest (6-12,) and Y.A.M. Artwork Program. Since the Delaware State University invites DAEA to view the Scholastic Awards, we have had the privilege of honoring one or more Group 1 and Group 2 artists.
Events Committee
This committee organizes events such as Banquets for awards, Memorial Moments (gatherings,) and Trips.

Membership
This committee consists of all representatives who takes care of updating member info and encouraging them to update information with NAEA to keep receive the most of their benefits. They focus on renewals and recruitment while also being that contact person for updates within the association.
